FG Announces Adoption of New Secondary School Curriculum

The federal government says a new secondary school curriculum will be introduced in September 2024.
Tahir Mamman, the minister of education, spoke on Thursday at the 2024 policy meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
He said the plan is to implement the curriculum by September 2024.
The minister said a stakeholders meeting will be held on August 6 to discuss the matter before implementation commences.
“By September, this programme will be implemented in all schools, public and private,” the minister said.
Education stakeholders have repeatedly called for comprehensive curriculum reform for primary and secondary schools.
Many have voiced concerns that the materials being taught have not been updated to reflect the advancements in technology, science, and global perspectives.
At a recently held education conference in Abuja, hundreds of stakeholders from over 30 countries in Africa asked governments on the continent to work out standards for the integration of technology into school curriculum.
They recommended that governments diversify learning pathways for out-of-school youth by developing flexible technology-enabled alternatives for learning, accredited certification, and re-entry to the formal education system.
Also recommended was the need to lower access barriers to education technology through strategic private-public partnerships that support responsive, evidence-based policy, and affordable solutions for all.
